The Naples Art Association at The von Liebig Art Center invites all artists residing in the United States to enter one or two original artworks in any media for National Art Encounter 2012-13. The fine art exhibition will be installed throughout The von Liebig Art Center from December 8, 2012 to January 26, 2013. The Naples Art Association will present $2,500 in awards to artists selected by jurors Margaret Miller, Director of the University of South Florida Institute for Research in Art; Corrina Peipon, Assistant Curator, the Hammer Museum and Dulce Román, Curatorial Chair and Curator of Modern Art, the Harn Museum. The awards will be announced during the Preview Reception and Awards Presentation from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 7. There is a $29 entry fee for two works ($22 for Naples Art Association members). The deadline for online entries is September 12, 2012. Membership in the Naples Art Association is not required.
Three Jurors will review entries for the exhibition and assign awards - 1) Margaret A. Miller is a full-time tenured Professor in the School of Art and Art History and the Director of the Institute for Research in Art at the University of South Florida in Tampa. The renowned art production atelier, Graphicstudio with the Contemporary Art Museum and the University’s Public Art Program form the Institute for Research in Art. Miller has been with USF since 1970. 2) Carrina Peipon is Assistant Curator at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Her projects include exhibitions from the Museum’s permanent collection as well as solo artist exhibitions. Since 2010, she has overseen the acquisitions committee for the Hammer Contemporary Collection, the museum’s growing permanent collection of works from the post-war period. 3) Dulce Román is Curatorial Chair and Curator of Modern Art, Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, University of Florida, Gainesville. She joined the staff of the Harn Museum of Art in 1999 and was appointed to her current position in 2001. She is responsible for the development and management of the Harn’s collection of modern art, which includes nearly 1,000 works from the United States, Latin America and Europe. Prior to joining the staff of the Harn Museum, Román served as a researcher of Spanish art at the Frick Collection in New York from 1992 to 1996 and the department of European paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York from 1996 to 1997.
ABOUT THE NAPLES ART ASSOCIATION - The von Liebig Art Center, home of the 58-year old Naples Art Association, presents changing exhibitions of contemporary art by regionally, nationally and internationally recognized artists. The von Liebig Art Center’s education program offers professional studio art courses and workshops in painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, ceramics, sculpture and applied arts. During National Art Encounter 2012-13 The von Liebig Art Center’s galleries will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 am until 4 pm.
