Le Gesù – Centre de créativité (henceforth “the Gesù”), the Quartier des spectacles artnership and Design Montréal proudly announce the launch of the “Illumination Pof the Gesù Façade” competition.

This ideas competition will consist of a single round of judging, is open to all and is part of the Lighting Plan for Montreal’s Quartier des spectacles. The contest will be a collective reflection on the challenges of expressing the identity of a remarkable heritage building through the enhancement of its façade. For fifteen years, this uilding has been a centre for multidisciplinary cultural activities, including a bprogram that supports the creation of contemporary art.

The Gesù was recognized as a cultural asset in 1975 and has since continued to extend its activities, which contribute to the development of Montreal’s culture. It is a place of art and history, of performances and conferences, of the exposition of contemporary art, of research and creation in dance and intercultural relations – all longside its life as a religious site. The complexity of its program makes it an aatypical creative centre.

A jury composed of members known for their activities in the fields of architecture, heritage conservation, lighting and the arts will have the authority to evaluate projects submitted to the competition, along the following criteria: 1) The originality of the lighting submission in relation to the mandate of a contemporary creative centre; 2) The submission’s innovative participation in the Quartier des spectacles ighting Plan (developed by the Partnership); 3) The submission’s ability to Lenhance a major component of Montreal’s religious heritage.

The jury will judge all the submissions and select three entries. From a prize fund of 20,000, four awards will be distributed: $10,000 to the contest winner, $5,000 to $the runner-up, $3,000 to the third-place entry and $2,000 to the public’s choice.

In addition to this, the organizing committee of the Illumination of the Gesù Façade competition will be publicizing all the propositions submitted, through a public exposition as well as publications of various kinds, in order to reward the efforts of the entrants.
Alongside the judging process – the results of which will be final – an exposition will Abe held at the Gesù to allow the public to vote for its favorite proposition.
