Competition Details
The "Young Illustrators Award“ is initiated by the Art Festival Illustrative and the Swatch company. The advertised competition is to assist young talents (designers and illustrators) and to show the 20 chosen winners at the Illustrative, the largest festival respecting contemporary illustration and graphics. Being present at the Illustrative, which showcases each year the best illustrators worldwide to a professional audience as well as to the general public, shall help every artist to gain quicker access to the international market as an illustrator, as an artist, or even both.
The aim of the competition is to award innovative tendencies and individual artistic approaches of young talents. Hence are we not looking for “the best commercial illustration”, but a freelance artistic work with illustrative or graphic background. Designers between 20 and 40 years of age are invited to register and post their works in the field of graphics, illustration, animation, book art and audiovisual illustration.
Theme
The main goal of the competition is to award the individual artistic position. Therefore the respective themes can be freely chosen. This openness shall make the intense engagement with a personal theme possible. The choice of the theme is supposed to be described in an one-sided artist statement. The text can be composed in English.
Illustration Category: Single pictures as well as series can be handed in.
Animation Category: Films, flash-films or similar of any length can be handed in. Animations have to be sent as CDs or DVDs. A link to You Tube is not sufficient.
Bookart Category: Here it is adequate to hand in an image of the book in a multilateral PDFdocument. It is asked that all essential constituents of the book are represented (cover, important pages, illustrations and particular processing features).
